About R3 Stem Cell

R3 Stem Cell is a Scottsdale, Arizona company that sells regenerative medicine treatments through a network of clinics. Dr. David Greene, a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon who moved to the business side of medicine, started it in 2012 while he was in business school at Arizona State, and he still runs it as CEO. R3's own pages put the network at 45 centers in seven countries in some places and 80 in eight countries in others, with more than 29,000 procedures reported since it began. R3 owns only a few of those clinics outright. The main one is a 7,000 square foot building on East Dynamite Boulevard in north Scottsdale that houses the stem cell center and R3's medspa arm, and there are R3 Anti Aging clinics in Beverly Hills and Brentwood, Tennessee. Everything else is an independent practice that joined R3's partnership program and uses its biologics, training, and marketing. The several hundred city pages on r3stemcell.com are search landing pages, not separate offices. What gets delivered depends on the country. In the US the visits are same-day outpatient injections: platelet-rich plasma, bone marrow or fat drawn from the patient, and donated umbilical cord or amniotic tissue allograft, placed under ultrasound guidance when the target calls for it. The intravenous protocols priced by cell count, from 25 million up to 250 million umbilical cord mesenchymal cells, are given at the Mexico clinics in Tijuana, Puerto Vallarta, and Cancun. None of it is FDA-approved. R3 registered a patient-funded observational study of amniotic and umbilical cord tissue on ClinicalTrials.gov in 2019 under NCT03899298, which is still listed there as not yet recruiting. Consultations are free, insurance does not pay, and published prices start at $3,999 in Mexico and $5,500 per joint in the US.

Reddit discussion

Mixedacross 5 threads

R3 comes up often in r/stemcells and the discussion is heavily critical. Commenters repeatedly flag the founder's revoked Arizona medical license, an FDA warning letter, and doubts about frozen cell viability and value for money. A few posters reported joint pain relief after treatment, while others reported no change months later.
